3 Bits Ranch is a small family owned ranch located in the Baker Valley, 12 miles outside Baker City, Oregon. The ranch is located at the base of the Elkhorn Mountains. The owners are Jerry, Jay and Ruthie Boyd. On the ranch we raise paint horses (several bred here)and breed dogs (ABCA Border Collies)that are excellent on cattle and sheep and will excell in fly ball, frizbee and agility.
Ruthie (born in 1993) is an accomplished Western & English rider having won a number of awards at various horse shows. She has qualified for the state fair in Wester Pleasure. Jerry and Ruthie work with the young horses and show them in various classes. Mountain trail competition is our latest interest.
Jay is Ruthie's mom & homeschool teacher, the one who keeps things on the ranch organized (like Jerry, her husband), and is a writer for Catholic periodicals. She is a former college teacher with a Ph.D in Psychology.
Jerry is a retired Chief of Police, former fire chief, and now Director of the County 9-1-1 Dispatch Center, Deputy County Fire Chief, and Deputy Director of the County's Emergency Management agency. All three are licensed amateur radio operators.
